Wholesale gas sees wholesale rises

15/03/2006 17:30:00

Britons could soon be facing further rises in the cost of gas bills after the wholesale price has once again increased.

The news comes following yesterday's marketplace activity, which saw gas suppliers pay 250p per therm of gas instead of 60p.

Tim Wolfenden, from price comparison service uSwitch.com, said that such steep rises are "likely to cause concern".

"Should wholesale prices remain at these levels for sometime, then the threat of further price rises being passed onto consumers could become a very real one," he said.

An increasing number of Britons have been finding it difficult to meet the rising costs of domestic bills, following an average increase of £70 to gas bills over the last three months.

And with personal debt levels at an all time high, the gas price crisis could not have come at a worse time.
