Stafford repossessions rising

Repossessions of homes in Stafford are rising rapidly according to the local Citizens' Advice Bureau.
The month of January saw an upsurge in demand from people seeking help with debt and financial strife, the Express & Star reports.
One of the major problems facing homeowners was the amount of money that they owed to utility companies, with many unable to meet the cost of bills.
Sue Nicholls, director of the Stafford and Stone Citizens' Advice Bureau (CAB), commented: "We expect a seasonal increase at this time. But there has been an increase in the number of mortgage repossessions by banks and building societies.
"This is very hard to deal with because people are often left with nowhere to go. People have borrowed right to the limit and beyond."
Ms Nicholls said the CAB tried as hard as it could to negotiate with financial institutions to prevent a repossession from going ahead, as "the most important thing is to keep a roof over people's heads".
