People 'more aware' of the impact of saving energy

Consumers and businesses alike are increasing their understanding of the importance of energy-saving techniques to tackle rising costs, according to a leading UK energy supplier.

The comment from npower shows the soaring price of oil is influencing national awareness on the issue, because the situation impacts costs across a broad range of areas, from the home to high street retailers.

Raymond McGloin, head of business sales at the organisation, said: "Generally people are starting to see that energy is no longer a commodity. [It] has moved itself into a price bracket where it's starting to push prices up everywhere."

A recent survey conducted for npower Business revealed the majority of workers are most likely to action measures to save energy during the summer, for example by altering the way they use equipment such as computers.

In contrast, 57 per cent of business employees said they thought their respective company was wasting energy, while a quarter reported difficulty in encouraging staff to save resources.
