Parents 'worried' about the costs of summer holidays

Three-quarters of families taking part in a recent survey are concerned about the financial implications of keeping their children entertained during the summer break.
Research by leading sports association David Lloyd Leisure has been supported by a well-known professional sportswoman, former tennis player Annabel Croft, who remarks on how "very expensive" it can be to provide activities for offspring.
She has backed a new low-cost summer membership operated by David Lloyd at its 59 sports clubs and costing at most £59 for a family membership, giving access to the full range of facilities on offer.
"It's a good idea and people are worried about their purses at the moment and it's about trying to fill all those summer weeks by getting your kids involved in something really positive and healthy," the celebrity said.
According to a study carried out by Axa, 2.2 million parents have reduced hand-outs to their kids, the amount their children spend or their allowances over the last six months as a direct result of the credit crunch.
