Parent handouts leave hole in the pocket

The ability of children to get their own way through pester power could be leaving a hole in their parents' pockets, according to new research.
The Kid's Pay Audit, commissioned by the Toonami children's channel, shows that on average each year parents hand over £821 to each of their children.
This includes pocket money, presents and bonuses for doing well at school, but doesn't even begin to take into account the cost of sending children to school, clothing and food.
Overall, it means that the nation's youngsters are wielding a collective purse of £7.2 billion.
The study also shows that, for one in two children, the majority of this money goes towards treats such as sweets, magazine and toys, whereas just one in four will spend the money on books or clothes.
Either way, it's an expensive time for parents who have to keep digging into their pockets.
