'Keep PIN safe' to avoid high bills

People wanting to avoid high credit card bills through identity theft should ensure they keep their PIN code private and hard to guess, according to an industry body.
APACS, the UK payments association, said consumers should make sure their PIN is very hard to work out in order to outwit fraudsters.
However, a spokeswoman for the organisation said this can be difficult for some customers, especially elderly people.
"It is better not to use the same PIN number, and if you can, familiarise a sequence of codes; a number of a house that you know in combination with a good friend's birthday," she said.
Other tips offered to credit and debit cards users are to shield your PIN when inputting it, never telling anyone the code and never writing it down.
A recent Which? survey found that nearly half of the 4,000 customers questioned only used one PIN code for all their cards.
