Help at hand for Ayrshire indebted

26/01/2006 13:34:00

People in South Ayrshire who are struggling with debt are being urged not to turn a blind eye to their money problems.

A new campaign has been launched to make people aware of a debt counselling service that is available to those who are failing to cope with their finances, the Ayrshire Post reports.

The service will be advertised by the distribution of leaflets all over the county and on buses and bus shelters as well.

Councillor Hugh Hunter, who is convener of the council's community safety committee, said: "Seeking advice and assistance early on is so important when someone has financial problems.

"Newspapers and daytime television are full of adverts offering loans. However someone who is struggling financially and has debts should never try and get out of the situation by taking on more debt without seeking professional advice."
