Taking the environmentally friendly option when it comes to heating, electricity or grocery bills can save homeowners up to £400, according to a property expert.
Nigel's Eco Store stated that homeowners are increasingly looking to save money due to the squeezing of finances brought on by the credit crunch and rising energy prices.
Nigel Berman, founder of Nigel's Eco Store, said: "It's something that we need to do for the planet, but we're also doing it for ourselves. You can reduce your bills if you take energy saving measures."
Mr Berman added that energy-saving light bulbs are a good way to reduce costs in the home.
They can cost up to £15 each, but over their life they might save you £40 including the cost of the bulb which means they "pay off in the long run", he concluded.
Meanwhile, a recent report from the Spectron Group revealed that UK natural-gas and power market contracts jumped to record levels after the six biggest power and gas suppliers increased prices earlier this year reported Bloomberg.com.
