Family food bill increases by £15 per week

The average family is spending an extra £15 per week on food according to new figures in a survey.
Findings from the study by Mysupermarket.com show that the price of a basket of shopping, consisting of 24 goods such as tea bags, milk and pasta, now costs 15 per cent more than it did 12 months ago.
Johnny Stern, managing director of MySupermarket.co.uk, said: "The conclusion is that supermarkets are passing on a sizeable amount of the increased costs."
"The average customer cares about the products they need to put in their basket every week that they don't have any choice about," he added.
The rate of 15 per cent is seven times as much as the Consumer Price Index, the government's preferred measure of inflation, which runs at 2.5 per cent.
Egg prices had gone up by 50 per cent and a bag of pasta had almost doubled in price, from 37p to 67p, according to the findings.
Despite food price increases, personal debt has fallen to the lowest level since 1996, according to the Chiltern Debt Monitor.
