Employees injured at work report pressure on their finances

02/06/2008 17:27:00

Research has shown two-thirds of workers who have suffered an accident at work have experienced added strain to their finances.

This problem has been blamed on rising costs of living and inflation, according to PersonnelToday.com, in addition to increased medical bills due to injury or illness caused at work.

The survey, carried out by National Accident Helpline, showed that over 55 per cent of injured employees also said they would go back to work earlier than recommended in order to "make ends meet".

Legal director of the company John Campbell told the news provider: "It is worrying that people are potentially putting their health at risk because they are bearing the brunt of financial pressures for which they aren't responsible."

The Health and Safety Executive estimated in 2004 that costs to individuals as a result of work-related injury or illness amounted to between £3,730 and £6,390 million.
