The Association of Cornish Credit Unions has launched a single free phone number enabling customers to get in touch with five credit unions, all of which operate in Cornwall.
Paula Nicholls, development coordinator at the association, said that the effort was a "unique" one using its volunteer force.
"The free phone number will enable Cornish credit unions to offer a nine to five service," she told thisiscornwall.co.uk.
Some 2,000 credit union members from across the county, many of whom are in need of low cost loans due to bad debt, will benefit from the service.
Credit unions offer a range of financial products to members and will "welcome everybody" regardless of income or financial situation, states the article.
However, anyone who wishes to join must belong to a credit union's 'common bond', which is the area a person resides or works in.
