A charity in Kettering is holding a week-long series of events aimed at highlighting the impact of bad debt on mental health.
Mind has said that debt is not merely a financial problem but one which has more pressing personal implications like the onset of serious anxiety, stress, depression and even suicide.
The charity will use its resource centre on Russell Street as a base for the activities, which start on Saturday May 10th and run until Saturday May 17th, reports the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph.
A spokesman for Mind told the newspaper: "Our aim is to highlight the need for support for individuals with experience of mental distress and debt issues.
"We would also like financial companies to be aware of the difficulties faced by those experiencing mental distress, and the impact of being in debt."
Events include a concert by the Mind choir, a money-themed karaoke and an art and poetry competition.
According to the Office for National Statistics, a quarter of people with mental health problems in Britain have reported debt and arrears.
