Britons expect wealthy 2006

Britons expect to enjoy a wealthier 2006, new figures show.
Research by Nationwide found that four in five people expect to be just as wealthy this year compared to last, if not more so.
Almost two in five of those surveyed predicted that their finances would improve over the next 12 months, while a further two in five said that they did not expect to end 2006 any worse off.
Nationwide thinks that much of this confidence is down to Britons emerging from the expensive Christmas period in relatively sound financial shape.
Over half of those surveyed expected to have finished paying for Christmas by the end of December.
However, this was marred slightly by an increase in the number of people who admitted they would be paying off festive debts until the spring.
A quarter of Britons expected to still be paying for Christmas at the end of March, up from less than one in five a year ago.
"For those who have chosen to borrow money to fund Christmas, now is a good time to review how they will pay off that debt, and to check if they could get a better deal by switching their credit card, or by taking out a personal loan," recommended Nationwide's Stuart Bernau.
