Barclaycard to issue text warnings

02/03/2006 16:30:00

Barclaycard customers will now be reminded to pay their credit card bill by text message, as the financial services provider joins the mobile revolution.

The text-message alert service is free of charge for customers who sign up to it and sends a reminder five days before the monthly payment is due.

Keith Coulter, managing director of cards and loans for the UK at Barclaycard, said: "We want to make our products easier to understand and these are simple things that will help customers avoid paying unnecessary fees on their account."

Customers wishing to avail of the service need to phone the provider to set up the alerts.

Barclaycard is the latest in a number of banks that offer the service, including Smile and Nationwide who offer customers text alerts on current account balances.
